Peplum kind of Fall

Another hot trend that is carrying over to the fall is Peplum dresses, skirts and tops.  You could not miss all the peplum dresses that have been all over popular culture.  One of the newest style icons, Kate Middleton, really put this trend back on the map.  And, Hollywood celebrities followed suit.  From long to short, skirt or dress, solid colors or two tones, this ladylike trend is everywhere.

However, here's the catch, since most of us have hips, this trend just doesn't flatter every body type.  And that okay.  There are plenty of other trends to take part in this fall.  However, if you love the trend and want to take part, try wearing a monochromatic look, especially black or grey.  The all over color will help to slim your hips, while the peplum skirt will accent your small waist.  No need to over accessorize with this look - let the peplum be the star and wear simple pumps and earrings.  Whether you wear a peplum dress or top, your ladylike style will shine.

Tortoise on Trend

Most of us seriously can't wrap our minds around cooler weather.  But, it's time to start thinking about fall trends and getting our closets ready.  If you aren't willing to jump into fall with leather, like the previous blog, let's take a smaller step - accessories!

Accessories are always and easy way to update your wardrobe from season to season.  This fall one huge accessory trend is tortoise.  Tortoiseshell effects are coming out of hiding this season - earring, necklaces, bracelets, handbags and even shoes were all over the Fall '12 runways.

With a trend that is so easy to get into to - whether that be spending a little more with a Michael Kors or Jimmy Choo piece, or a little less with a costume jewelry piece - you will be spot on for the fall.

Fall trend - leather!

I know fall seems so far away since it has been in the 90s for as long as I can remember, but don't fret because the fall is right around the corner.  If you have made a recent shopping trip, you should have noticed that the summer gear is going on sale and the racks are being filled with fall/winter clothing.  Whoo-hoo!  I love fall/winter clothes.  I have always thought it is easier to be into fashion in the fall - layering, boots, leggings, tights - so much more fun and complex than a simple sundress.

This fall there are plenty of trends out there.  And, like most years in fashion, certain trends are making their rounds again.  Some great fall trends to participate in that you probably already have in your closet are military inspired pieces, chunky sweaters, black and white, menswear looks, and gold accents.  I'll blog about all of these later.

Today, let's talk about one of the hugest trends out there for fall - leather, leather, leather!!  It was all over the runways and will be all over the stores.  If you pay attention to popular culture, you probably already noticed the Hollywood starlets already rocking this trend.

Now, most of us already have a little leather in our closets - whether that be a leather jacket or patent leather shoes - so don't be afraid to pull those out.  Just be careful that the leather doesn't have a early 90s look to it.  You want it to be crisp, fresh and chic.  If you are looking to invest in some leather, a cute leather jacket is the way to go.  Be sure it fits you like a glove.  It shouldn't be too long and should be seen as more of a sweater than a jacket.  Or, try a leather skirt or leather pants.  And, again there are always patent leather belts and shoes that will fit this trend.

If you really want to rock this trend and fit right in will all the fashionistas out there, you should get a pair of leather leggings or skinny leg pantsThis is actually my must have piece for the fall.  It is so trendy and so fabulous.  Now, plenty of us don't want to invest in an expensive pair of real leather leggings since it's such a trendy piece. And, I don't blame you.  But, this fall the fashion world has several faux leather solutions that look and feel just like the real thing.  BEWARE - don't get a pair of cheap, pleather looking pants.  People are sure to know they are fake a mile away.  Be sure your faux pair looks and feel great.  BCBG and Karl both make great pairs.

So get ready for the fall, let your inner rock star shine and get some leather!
